The holidays can be a hectic time of year filled with holiday parties and social gatherings. Remember that networking with others can be an opportunity to connect with others which can lead to valuable business.
Here are 3 small business networking strategies to help you optimize your time:
- Send E-cards instead
- In your office, give what’s really important
Pre- Network. Call five people you know are going to attend a networking event and invite them to meet you for a drink on the way over. Choose your targets wisely to ensure you connect with some of your top targets for the night. Meeting in advance to the networking event will ensure you get some quality one to one networking and you won’t run the risk of not getting to speak to them at the crowded event.
Networking through holiday cards. The holidays can be an extremely hectic time of year. Sometimes we get lost in remembering the spirit of the season. In lieu of holiday cards many are sending holiday emails and donating the funds you would have spent on cards to a charity close to your heart. Making a donation and letting others know about is a great idea. It’s two fold – it should hold you to making the donation and others will appreciate your generosity.
One thing to note – we make it a habit of not only getting in touch with others during the holidays, but also getting in touch with people on their birthdays as well. We send a hand written card for birthdays because people are much more impressed by what others do for them on their very own “special days” even more so than big holidays.
Network your relationship with your employees. This year, try handwriting cards to your employees a thank you for contributing to the success of your organization. Sometimes if you can’t afford to give a big bonus – give your employees some extra time home with their families. Let them leave a few hours earlier on the day of a holiday like Christmas Eve for example. If you give them advance notice, they will appreciate the gesture even more.
