Testing is a way for you to discover what works–and what doesn’t–even on your website or blog. A lot has changed within the past 5 years. We have gone from cold calling and direct mail pieces to the rise of social media and blogging. Now more than even it’s important to have an online presence. If consumers can’t find you online then they can’t buy from you.
If you are up to the challenge, try testing some of the below techniques to increase online sales:
- Be Consistant
- Have an opt-in on your site
- Measure your online KPI’s
Simplify your offerings. Offer just one product or service on your home page. Remember to test and measure the offering, but having a clear focused message usually yields the greatest results. We all know that you can’t please everyone. So, instead of trying to offer a large range of products, narrow your focus on one product or set of products. Don’t stop selling your other remaining products. Just sell your remaining products from other web pages or within links from the main page.
Having a consistent, organized online sales process will help turn to prospects into customers. When you have an organized process, the more likely you are to close the sale. Having a sales process will also allow you to test and measure what’s working within the process and what’s not working. It will allow you to tweak the process for optimal results.
Your opt-in offer allows you to gather your prospect’s e-mail addresses as well as build your e-mail list and sell your products or services. The most important thing to note it that where your opt-in offer appears on your site can have a huge impact on how many subscribers you attract. Place your opt-in offer in as prominent a position as possible on your home page–the top left of a page is where visitors’ eyes are often drawn first or make sure it’s in the “top fold” of your home page.
Tracking your KPI’s – Key Performance Indicators, online is important. Now a days you can’t just have a website – you need to analyze it’s metrics and track it’s KPI’s. Why? Because more purchases are made online today than ever before. You want to make sure that you get on the bandwagon and start receiving online sales too. Taking a deeper look at the KPI’s of your website or blog, will allow you to better understand how to increase your web traffic.
When looking at Google Analytics it can be a bit overwhelming. What metrics make sense to follow? Well this could be different for every business. All of the below are metrics:
- Number of Visits to your site
- Number of Page Views
- Bounce Rate
- Average Time on Site
Be careful though in identifying KPI’s, because they are unique to every business (even between competitors) and a great way to fail quickly at this step is to poorly select what KPI’s are important. Once you have your important KPI’s selected, it’s time to start tracking them. By tracking KPI’s you can then see what areas need improvement. It will change the way you do business online and hopefully increase your conversion rate.
