Effective Time Management Strategies for the Holidays
There are only so many hours in each day. If you feel overwhelmed by getting everything completed, than it sounds like you may need to manage your time more effectively.
During the holidays especially many are stretched thin for time between business and personal obligations. Managing your time more efficiently will not only allow you to become more productive, but it will also minimize stress and improve your quality of life. You will also enjoy the holidays much more too.
Here are 5 Effective Time Management Strategies for the Holidays:
- Plan each day
- Keep a diary of your time
- Block out time
- Delegate responsibilities
- Take a break
At the end of each day, plan the next. Write out your to-do list for the next day and then prioritize your tasks to complete your list. Always try to consider how your overall goals tie back to your to-do lists. During the holidays, it helps if you can even plan out your weekends in a similar fashion.
Keeping a diary of your time will allow you to evaluate how your spending your time. How can you improve upon your time management / eliminate unnecessary tasks? How can you use your time more wisely? Perhaps you can take a bus or train to work and use the commute to catch up on reading or responding to emails.
Delegate. Review your to-do list and consider what you can pass on to someone else. Sometimes it may take an investment of time on your part to train others on specific tasks. That investment of your time will pay off when you can then delegate the task and get it off your plate and free up your time.
Blocks of time – hold aside time to complete big projects and limit your distractions. Hold aside time for personal commitments such as exercise or spending time with your children. A healthy lifestyle can improve your focus and concentration. Getting plenty of rest, exercise and time for your own personal self can help improve your efficiency because you will feel better inside. Blocking out your time can allow you to complete your work in less time because you will be more efficient and have less distractions. We usually recommend you create a default diary for how your day / or week should ideally look.
Take a break. When you need a break, take one. Take a walk or get a coffee whatever works for you, do it. Taking a break can help you become more efficient believe it or not. Taking a vacation will help you rejuvenate and allow you to look at everything with fresh eyes.
